Additives For Petroleum Based Fluids
By T Holczer – Published 10/27/2008
| Additive | Description |
|---|---|
| Antiwear | Reduces the wear on metal surfaces |
| Antirust | Protects rusting in your hydraulic system for ferrous metal materials |
| Antioxidant | Reduction of oxygen in the hydraulic system caused by a chemical reaction of petroleum fluid, water, oxygen, and metals |
| Metal Deactivators | Used to deactivate metal ions, thus stabilizing the fluid |
| Foam Retardant | Stops foam that forms in the hydraulic system reservoir |
| Viscosity Index Improvers | Improves the rate of change for hydraulic fluid viscosity when operating in a wide range of temperatures |
| Detergents | Contributes to the cleaning of metal |
| Demulsifies | Separates the water and oil in the reservoir |
| Pour Point Depressors | In low temperature environments, it gives the oil better fluidity |
| Dispersants | Attaches to contaminants from forming solid “sludge” for removal when oil is changed |
| Dye | A dye additive is used to detect leaks |
