Western Integrated Technologies helps customers stay informed about hydraulic product updates that improve performance, reliability, and service life. In July 2026, Parker announced important enhancements to its 5/8″ FEM Couplings, completing its FEM Series pressure rating and plating improvement program.
Parker will begin shipping the newly designed 5/8″ FEM Couplings in July 2026 as a running production change. This update affects only the 5/8″ body size, specifically FEM 621 and FEM 622 couplings.
What’s Changing in the 5/8″ FEM Series?
Parker’s FEM Series hydraulic couplings are designed for demanding hydraulic applications and will continue to meet or exceed ISO 16028 specification requirements. The latest 5/8″ body size update includes both visual changes and meaningful performance enhancements.
The new 5/8″ FEM design will feature:
- Increased pressure rating to 5,000 psi
- Improved corrosion resistance with zinc nickel plating
- Improved Sleeve-Lok design as the new standard
- Full backward compatibility with previous FEM coupling styles
These enhancements follow similar updates previously implemented across the 1/4″, 3/8″, 1/2″, 3/4″, and 1″ FEM body sizes over the past several years.
Improved Pressure Rating: Now 5,000 PSI
Parker increased the pressure rating of the 5/8″ FEM Couplings to 5,000 psi. This upgrade helps support hydraulic systems that operate in demanding industrial and mobile environments.
Customers use FEM Couplings in equipment for construction, agriculture, forestry, mining, transportation, government, military, marine, and other tough applications. Higher pressure capability helps operators maintain reliable hydraulic connections in challenging conditions.
Zinc Nickel Plating for Better Corrosion Resistance
The new 5/8″ FEM couplings will also include zinc nickel plating, improving corrosion resistance compared with previous finishes. Corrosion protection is especially important for equipment exposed to outdoor environments, washdown conditions, road spray, moisture, and other harsh operating environments.
For mobile equipment and industrial machinery, better corrosion resistance can help extend component life, reduce maintenance concerns, and support more dependable hydraulic system performance.
Sleeve-Lok Now Standard on 5/8″ FEM Couplings
Parker is also making the Sleeve-Lok design standard on the 5/8″ FEM body size.
As part of this change, Parker Quick Coupling Division is obsoleting the No Lock “-NL” feature for the 5/8″ FEM Series effective immediately. Since Sleeve-Lok is now the standard configuration for this body size, any 5/8″ FEM coupling ordered with the “-NL” suffix will be shipped as the new standard Sleeve-Lok version.
Customers are encouraged to use the non-“-NL” FEM part number going forward as the recommended alternative.
| Obsoleted Part Number | New Part Number |
| FEM-621-12FO-NL | FEM-621-12FO |
| FEM-621-12FS-NL | FEM-621-12FS |
| FEM-621-16BMF-NL | FEM-621-16BMF |
| FEM-621-16MF-NL | FEM-621-16MF |
| FEM-621-12FO-NL-E4 | FEM-621-12FO-E4 |
Backward Compatibility
Parker has advised that the old and new 5/8″ FEM coupling styles are fully backward compatible. This means customers can transition to the enhanced design without needing to overhaul existing mating components solely because of this product update.
Because the new couplings are being introduced as a running production change, customers may begin seeing the updated version as existing inventory transitions through normal supply channels.
