Specialty Hoses for Data Center Cooling Applications

AI, high-density computing, cloud workloads, and continuous uptime requirements are pushing modern data centers harder than ever. As rack power density increases, cooling systems need to move more heat away from servers, coolant distribution units, manifolds, and facility-level infrastructure safely and reliably.

That makes hose selection more than a maintenance detail. The right hose can support coolant purity, reduce routing complexity, maintain flow, resist flame exposure, and help protect mission-critical equipment from thermal disruption.

Western Integrated Technologies supports data center operators, OEMs, contractors, and maintenance teams with Parker hose solutions for liquid cooling and fluid conveyance applications. Parker identifies several of these hose families as thermal management products for liquid and electronic cooling in its thermal management literature.

Why Hose Selection Matters in Data Center Cooling

Data center cooling systems may include:

  • Direct-to-chip liquid cooling
  • Server blade and rack-level cooling loops
  • Coolant distribution units, or CDUs
  • Rack manifolds
  • Rear-door heat exchangers
  • Facility water loops
  • Glycol and DI water coolant circuits
  • Suction and discharge lines
  • Coolant transfer assemblies

Each section of the cooling system has different needs. Some areas require compact, highly flexible hose for routing inside or near server racks. Other areas require larger-diameter hose for higher-flow coolant movement between CDUs, manifolds, pumps, and facility systems.

Parker’s data center hose portfolio includes smaller flexible hoses for server and rack-level routing, mid-size coolant transfer hoses, and larger suction/discharge hoses for facility-scale coolant movement.

Practical Guide to Hose Selection for Data Center Cooling Applications

Parker 627 Series Push-Lok Hose

Best suited for coolant transfer in high-performance computers and data centers

Parker 627 Series Push-Lok Hose is designed for transferring coolant in high-performance computers and data farms. It uses a peroxide-cured EPDM tube engineered to improve chemical and temperature resistance while supporting sealing performance in computer and electronics applications.

Parker 629 Series Server Blade Hose

Best suited for direct-to-chip and server blade cooling

Parker 629 Server Blade Hose is a low-pressure, peroxide-cured EPDM hose designed specifically for compact thermal management systems. Its small outside diameter, tight bend radius, and flexibility make it especially useful where space is limited.

This hose is one of the group’s most rack-focused products. Parker describes the 629 Server Blade Hose as a unique hose designed for direct liquid cooling, with routing capability for direct-to-chip cooling applications.

Where to Use Parker 629 in a Data Center

Parker 629 is well suited for:

  • Direct-to-chip liquid cooling lines
  • Server blade cooling circuits
  • Cold plate supply and return connections
  • In-rack coolant routing
  • Tight-radius hose runs inside compact server cabinets
  • Connections between rack manifolds and liquid-cooled IT hardware

Because of its small OD and flexibility, Parker 629 is ideal for the most space-constrained areas of a data center cooling system. It is especially appropriate near the server hardware itself, where hose routing must avoid sharp bends, obstruction, or unnecessary space claim.

Key Features

  • Peroxide-cured EPDM tube for enhanced sealing and fluid purity

Parker E-Z Form EPDM-P Hose, Series 7390

Best suited for larger coolant lines with tight bend requirements

Parker Series 7390 E-Z Form EPDM-P Hose is designed for extreme bends and kink-free performance while maintaining full-flow capability. It uses a peroxide-cured EPDM tube, multiple textile braids or plies, and a wire helix for suction capability and durability.

This hose is especially useful when larger coolant lines need to be routed around equipment, pumps, CDUs, skids, or mechanical room infrastructure without kinking.

Where to Use Parker 7390 in a Data Center

Parker 7390 is well suited for:

  • CDU inlet and outlet hose assemblies
  • Coolant supply and return lines around mechanical skids
  • Facility coolant loop connections
  • Pump suction or discharge lines where flexibility is needed
  • DI water and glycol-based coolant solution transfer
  • Large-diameter hose runs where tight routing is required
  • Connections between CDUs, manifolds, and larger distribution piping

The 7390 Series is a good choice when the hose must handle larger flow requirements but still bend around equipment without kinking. This makes it valuable in mechanical spaces, row-level cooling zones, and CDU piping areas where rigid pipe alone may not offer enough installation flexibility.

Key Features

  • Peroxide-cured EPDM tube

  • Main coolant supply and return lines
  • Large CDU suction and discharge connections
  • Facility-level coolant distribution
  • Mechanical room hose assemblies
  • High-flow DI water and glycol coolant lines
  • Connections between pumps, CDUs, heat exchangers, and larger distribution headers
  • Larger-scale data center cooling infrastructure

This is the hose to consider when the application requires greater flow capacity in 2 in, 3 in, or 4 in hose sizes. Compared with smaller rack-level hoses, 7391 is better positioned for the infrastructure side of the data center cooling system.

Choosing the Right Hose for Your Cooling System

When selecting a hose for data center cooling, consider:

  • Coolant type, including DI water, glycol mixtures, PCW, or industrial coolants
  • Hose inside diameter and required flow rate
  • Working pressure and safety factor
  • Temperature range
  • Bend radius and routing constraints
  • Flame resistance requirements
  • Hose flexibility near IT equipment
  • Fitting compatibility
  • Whether the hose will be used inside the rack, between racks, at the CDU, or in the mechanical room

Small-diameter hoses like Parker 629 are best suited for direct-to-chip and server-level cooling. Mid-size hoses like Parker 627 and 807 are practical for coolant transfer and rack-level distribution. Larger hoses like Parker 7390 and 7391 are better suited for CDUs, manifolds, mechanical rooms, and facility coolant distribution.
