Why Parker Chelsea Is Making the Change
The new remote mount valve assembly is designed around Parker Chelsea’s standard cartridge valve. This updated design supports simpler installation and improved reliability while still meeting the needs of demanding truck and mobile hydraulic applications.
One of the biggest advantages of the new assembly is that it does not require any wiring harness alterations. For installers, fleet maintenance teams, and upfitters, that means a more straightforward changeover with fewer electrical modifications to manage.
The new design also reduces the number of fittings required. Fewer fittings can mean:
- Simpler installation
- Fewer potential leak points
- Cleaner hose routing
- Easier service and maintenance
- Improved long-term reliability
For vocational trucks and mobile hydraulic systems, reducing leak points is especially important. Even small hydraulic leaks can create downtime, cleanup issues, safety concerns, and avoidable maintenance costs.
Installation Notes for the Updated Remote Mount Valve
When mounting the updated valve assembly, Chelsea engineers recommend using 5/16-inch bolts that are at least 2.5 inches long to secure the manifold to the truck frame.
Installers should also pay close attention to the lube port plug configuration.
The lube port plug comes installed for all applications. However, it must be removed for certain applications, such as Allison 3K and 4K Series transmissions, where high-pressure lubrication is supplied from the transmission.
For transmissions that require a separate low-pressure lubrication circuit, the plug must remain installed.
Because lubrication requirements can vary by transmission and PTO configuration, it is important to verify the correct setup before installation.
Exhaust Port Hose Routing and PTO Disengagement
The updated valve assembly also includes an exhaust port function that supports proper clutch disengagement.
When the PTO is disengaged, a hose connected to the exhaust port on the valve assembly allows oil to flow back to a port on the PTO. This return path helps ensure proper clutch disengagement and reliable operation of the PTO system.
Correct hose routing is critical for performance, so technicians should follow Parker Chelsea installation guidance for the specific PTO and transmission combination.

Spotlight: Chelsea 282 Series PTO
The Chelsea 282 Series PTO is one of the PTO series affected by the remote mount valve changeover. The 282 Series is Parker Chelsea’s next-generation medium-duty hot shift PTO, engineered with upgraded internal components capable of handling up to 300 lb-ft of torque in intermittent or continuous operation. It is designed for applications such as fuel delivery, towing and recovery, aerial equipment, construction, and water trucks. (westernintech.com)

Spotlight: Chelsea 890 Series PTO
The announcement also applies to the Chelsea 890 Series PTO. The 890 Series was designed to fit Allison 3000/4000 Series transmissions and moves the PTO/pump mounting flange to the rear of the transmission to support improved pump clearance. WIT notes that all 890s include Wet Spline outputs for longer pump spline life. (westernintech.com)
