In February, Parker announced the change to part numbers for the Gold Cup mechanical shaft seals. As part of that change, the old seal 623-00016-0 was replaced with a new seal 623-00018-0.
However, during implementation, Parker discovered an important compatibility issue: the spring retainer supplied with the new seal did not properly fit Gold Cup units of frame sizes 6/7/8 when those units are built with the #4 or #5 shaft option.
If you work in service or repair, here’s what you need to know:
What’s Required for #4 or #5 Shafts on 6/7/8 Units
- The same shaft seal, 623-00018-0, is used across both 11/14 frame units and 6/7/8 frame units with #4 or #5 shafts. This overlap was previously not clearly called out.
- Because the standard spring retainer that ships with the new 623-00018-0 seal is “cup shaped,” it does not fit correctly on the #4 / #5 shafts in sizes 6/7/8.
- A special “hat-shaped” spring retainer is required instead — this is the only retainer that will work in this configuration.
- The parts manual (spare parts book/BOM) is being revised to explicitly reference this special retainer when servicing 6/7/8 frame Gold Cup units with #4 or #5 shafts.
- Visually, the two retainers differ in shape:
- Standard retainer = cup shaped (left)
- Special retainer for #4 and #5 shafts = hat shaped (right)
Updated Part Numbers & Kits for Gold Cup Frame sizes 6/7/8 with #4 or #5 Shaft Options:
- A new spring retainer 033-93370-0 must be used in combination with the 623-00018-0 seal (if doing a repair)
- If you order the 623-00018-0 seal by itself for one of these units, you must also order the special retainer (033-93370-0)
- Alternatively, you can order a complete kit that includes both the seal and the special retainer (along with four NYLITITE washers and the O-ring for the seal retainer). The kit part numbers are S23-17176-0 or S23-17176-5.
The updated BOM for the relevant pump/motor combinations now reflects inclusion of the special spring retainer. These combinations include:
- Pump | S23-17027-0 & S23-17027-5 (P / D / V)
- Pump | S23-17030-0 & S23-17030-5 (S / X / R / L)
- Motor | S23-17744-0 & S23-17744-5 (H / V)
